Ruby Deese Stanton was born in Bainbridge, Georgia, on July 16, 1908. She moved to Florida in 1932, to work for the Winter Park Herald.

After her marriage to Edwin Stanton in 1936, the couple purchased property in the city, where they would live for the rest of their lives. During World War II, Ruby began working as a secretary for Winter Park Federal Savings and Loan, where she remained for 15 years. She died on August 17, 1989.

Scope and Contents These files represent typical family papers, such as anyone might accumulate in the course of a lifetime. Ruby kept some of Edwin's early cards and gifts, and the letters that he sent her while visiting his sister, Anne, in the 1950s. (Unfortunately, her replies have not survived.) Edwin's letters home during World War I are included, as are letters his father exchanged with the army concerning his son's qualifications as a motor mechanic that he felt the army had ignored.
