Correspondence, 1917-1935
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of biographical material on Annie Russell, the woman and the actress; it is difficult to separate the one from the other. However, the main focus of this collection is to provide insight into the woman behind the roles. The collection documents Annie's life from childhood through her early career, her rise to stardom and her exit from the limelight due to illness, and her subsequent resurgence with the opening of The Annie Russell Theatre. The collection begins with Annie's biography and general information related to her personal life. It includes correspondence and newspaper clippings, as well as information on the building of her theater. Pictures of Russell, both in costume on the stage and personal pictures, are included in this collection, as are items of memorabilia.
