Biographical / Historical

Richard Frederick Trismen was born on September 27, 1935 to the late Frederick Detmar Trismen and Gladys Cisney Trismen, who moved permanently to Winter Park in 1937. As a graduate of Westtown School, Westtown, PA, Rollins College and Yale Law School, Mr. Trismen practiced law in Winter Park for forty-seven years. He was a sole practitioner, but had been a Partner with Johnson, Motsinger, Trismen & Sharp, Baker & Hostetler and Trismen, Willard & Uncapher. Immediately after receiving his law degree, he was an associate with Andrews & Smathers. He was a member of the Orange County Bar Association Real Property, Probate and Trust Section and a former member of the American Bar Association, American Judicature and the Central Florida Estate Planning Council. He retired as a Captain in the Judge Advocate General Corps, after serving in the U.S. Army Reserves. As a devoted teacher, Mr. Trismen touched many lives. He taught Business Law at Rollins College from 1966 to 1989; he also taught Sunday School at the First Congregational Church In Winter Park, where he served on many boards, including two terms on the Diaconate. Mr. Trismen dedicated years to the welfare and improvement of the City of Winter Park. After serving on the Winter Park Parks and Recreation Commission, Board of Adjustment and Housing Authority, he was Winter Park City Attorney from 1972 to 1980. He has remained active in the politics of the city throughout his career to ensure a better city for present and future citizens. He is a former member of the Boards of Directors of the Depugh Nursing Home, Loch Haven Art Center/Orlando Art Association (Treasurer, Vice President), Florida Symphony, English-Speaking Union (President in 1969), Bach Festival Society of Winter Park (Secretary, Treasurer), Rollins College Alumni Association, and the Executive Committees of Winter Park Memorial Hospital and Winter Park Memorial Hospital Foundation. At the time of his death, Mr. Trismen was Secretary to the Board of Trustees, Rollins College and a Director of the Martin Andersen-Gracia Andersen Foundation. He was also a member and former Chairman of the Advisory Board of Sun Trust N.A., Winter Park Office. He was also a member of the Country Club of Orlando, Citrus Club, Winter Park Racquet Club, Sigma Nu Fraternity, The Yale Club of New York City, University Club of Winter Park, Committee of 100 of Orange County and the Half Century Club of Winter Park. For many years he had been a member of the Rotary Club of Winter Park.

Custodial History

On July 16, 2008, The files were transferred to the College upon the death of Richard Trismen, and then the materials were stored in the College Arms for for two years, and reviewed and weeded by George H. Herbst, Vice President of Finance and Services, before finally transfering to the College Archives in 2010-11 academic year.
