Scope and Contents
Series I consists of Edwin and Ruby's personal papers and memorabilia. In this series are their letters to each other, other correspondence that they sent or received, Edwin's World War I memoirs and news clippings, family records for both the Stantons and the Thorntons, and minor items, such as address books and membership cards. Only the photocopies of the news clippings will be served, due to their fragile nature.
This series also includes complete newspapers and magazines documenting major historical events, such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill, and the space program.
Most of the objects in the collection are also in this series, including Edwin's World War I medal and insignia, a scrapbook of World War II cartoons, and a watch inscribed to Edwin that he received from the Plandome Fire Department.
